mistakesCommon mistakes

  • Using "* * * * * *" instead. That expression fires 60 times per minute and will usually get a thread pool exhausted very quickly.
  • Forgetting that Spring needs six fields: the seconds field has no default and cannot be omitted.

Questions

How do I run a Spring job every minute?

Use "0 * * * * *" with @Scheduled(cron = "0 * * * * *"). The first field pins the seconds to 0 and the minute field is a wildcard.

Is @Scheduled(cron = "* * * * * *") ever useful?

It runs every single second. It is valid, but for anything non-trivial you want the seconds field fixed to 0.
